Hollywood Hills Modern

Pacific View is a 1,600 square foot two story home for a young couple, cantilevered 40’-0” beyond the Hollywood Hills above Mulholland Drive.
The original 1960s floor plan divided the clear span structure into three bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, a galley kitchen, and a fireplace that served as a barricade to the sweeping views outside. An extensive renovation removed the fireplace, walls, closets, and hallways to open the spaces to each other and to the views of downtown Los Angeles, the Santa Monica Mountains, and the Hollywood sign outside. The necessary service elements were reintroduced at the core of the house to allow for necessary functions without sacrificing access to the view. Quarter sawn rift white oak, limestone floors, and white lacquer contrast the changing colors of the natural landscape outside and create a soothing uniform palette throughout the house
Pacific View is a counter to the owners’ frenetic work life. The flowing spaces create a restful retreat for entertaining and a pleasing frame from which to view Los Angeles beyond.
