Third Space
This mid-century modern post and beam home nestled in the hills of Studio City was the victim of haphazard additions– defaming its original Japanese zen spirit. Inspiration was drawn from local coffee shops, as the windowless kitchen was integrated into adjoining indoor and outdoor spaces. A hearth bench, a bookshelf, and a media built-in were designed and installed to create a cozy nook for reading and entertainment. A new indoor planter and skylight establishes balance and continuity between the family room, kitchen, and outdoor living area. A bright tomato red post, as well as deep blue beams which extend from kitchen to pool, highlight and reclaim the home’s post and beam heritage.
The result: a space that feels both outside-in perfect for eating, playing, and impromptu family jam sessions.
